Purpose of Position
Serves as spokesperson for group. Works to promote and enhance the status of the Association and encourage membership. Supervises the Association's activities and carries into effect the decisions of the board. The president has such powers as the by-laws may direct.
Specific Duties
Board Meetings
Conduct board meetings according to Roberts Rules of Order. This should be done with respect for the need for each person to be heard and supported. The meetings should be conducted with concern for time to ensure that they are not endless, but time should be extended, if necessary, for important decisions.
General Meetings
Open and chair business portion of meeting. Introduce program director who will in turn introduce the guest artist.
In business portion of meeting report membership progress, activities and projects of the association and provide information, which the membership should be apprised of.
At the November meeting give a report of the CWA activities of the past year and recommendations for the following year.
Board members
Oversee the duties performed by board members. If performance is unsatisfactory, or detrimental to the Association, steps should be taken to correct the situation. Board members are volunteers not employees and must be treated as such.
Appoint board members between elections to fill vacancies.
Committees
Appoint Chairpersons and members of all committees except where otherwise stated
Function as ex-officio for members of all committees except the Nominating committee.
Appoint steering committee members and appoint one of them as chair. Stay in touch with members and attend meetings periodically
Contracts and other obligations
Sign written contracts or obligations with board approval.
Correspondence
Honor outside correspondence as quickly as possible.
