Membership Application and Dues
You may join or renew your CWA membership online. CWA dues payments are processed through PayPal, where you may use your debit card, credit card, PayPal account. or arrange for a check to be sent. Associate/Signature Membership/Master Signature Membership dues: $45 for one year, $90 for 2 years, and $135 for 3 years.
Alternatively you can Print An Application Form, and send a check or fill in your credit card information, and we will process your credit card payment through PayPal for you.
Associate Membership (A)
Any person interested in the arts may become as associate member of the California Watercolor Association.
Signature Membership (S)
To apply for Signature Membership: An associate member must petition the Board through the Membership Director with a letter listing participation in CWA activities, enclosing copies of "Service Hours Record" and show flyers or acceptance notices as necessary. The burden of documentation rests upon the applicant. Acceptance is subject to Board Approval.
To qualify for Signature Membership status: An applicant must fulfill the following requirements:
1 - Must be a member in good standing
2 - a. Must have been accepted in three CWA National Exhibitions; OR
2 - b. Must have been accepted into two CWA National Exhibitions and have worked a minimum of 60 service hours.
Service hours are earned by assisting with shows, being a regional representative, bringing refreshments to the General Meetings and any other service deemed acceptable by the Board. Each time service is performed, a "Service Hours Record" should be completed by the volunteer and signed by the person in charge of the activity. This provides a record of service.
The following positions earn 200 hours after 2 years of service:

- Hospitality Chairperson
- Video Library Committee Director
- Gallery Concord Director(s)
The following position earns 10 hours per show:
- Show Chairs
Signature members may use the initials CWA after their signature on water based media work if they so desire. No member may use the initials CWA unless and until their petition has been granted by the board. Use of these initials will continue only as long as the person is a member of CWA.
Master Signature Membership
To qualify for Master Signature Membership status: An applicant must fulfill the following requirements: Must be a Signature Member. Must have been a member for six years prior to petitioning the Board through the Membership Director with a letter providing proof of six (6) National Exhibition entry acceptances. Acceptable proof of acceptances must be in the form of show flyers, acceptance notices, or show catalog pages.
Gold, Silver or Bronze membership(s) may be conferred by recommendation of a Board Member and approved by a majority vote of the Board on a person, company, corporation or business, who has provided a special contribution or other good and valuable service. Benefactor members shall not have the right to vote, make motions or suggest resolutions.
Membership Dues - effective in 2012
Associate and Signature Memberships are available for 1, 2 or 3 years. Memberships are based on the date processed, and will no longer be based on the calendar year. For example, a one-year membership processed on January 15, 2012, will be good until January 14, 2013.
Associate/Signature Membership/Master Signature Membership: $45 for one year, $90 for 2 years, and $135 for 3 years. If CWA raises the membership rates in the future, members will be protected from a rate increase for the duration of their membership period.
CWA also has special Benefactor Membership(s): Gold - $1,000, Silver - $500, and Bronze - $250, as well as
Student Memberships for students between the ages of 16 & 25, at a rate of $12 per year.
Memberships are non-refundable in the event of a move out of the area. (CWA has many members across the United States.) CWA does not offer discounted rates for two artists living at the same address; both members would be required to pay the appropriate member rate.

Monthly meetings with demonstrations by well known artists are held the third Wednesday of each month, except June and December, at 7:30pm at the Shadelands Arts Center, 111 N. Wiget Ln. (at Ygnacio Valley Rd.), Walnut Creek, CA. [see Map]. See About Us for more information.
You have the opportunity to enter numerous CWA sponsored exhibitions. See Exhibitions.
Special discounted rates are offered to CWA-sponsored workshops. Prominent nationally and internationally known instructors teach them.
Published January through December, the newsletter includes information on upcoming workshops, demonstrations, and information on activities by other members. Recognition of members and their accomplishments and information on coming juried shows, both inside and outside the organization, and much more are also listed.
Plein Air Excursions
Informal excursions to paint at select spots in California with other artists.
CWA maintains an online directory of all members, and also traditionally publishes an annual edition.
All members receive a free copy of the national annual show catalog that includes paintings by all the artists accepted in the show.
Scholarship & Outreach Programs
CWA has a scholarship fund to help further the study of art. Each year awards of art supplies, cash, or merchandise certificates are given to deserving students or to community art projects. Scholarships are provided annually as well as a student juried art show.
In addition, an outreach program is provided by CWA that includes giving demonstrations to art classes in school districts.
Promotional Shows & Events
CWA exhibits in various promotional events giving members an additional opportunity to exhibit and sell their work and participate in the CWA Sales Booth. CWA credit card processing is available at these events.
Available free is a library of instructional tapes by various national and international artists. This lets a member preview a forthcoming workshop instructor as well as review other methods of learning.
