Outreach Program

Through its Outreach programs, CWA is committed to investing time, expertise and 15% of its members' art sales to student art education. The CWA volunteers teach and demonstrate the art of watercolor painting to students of all ages.

Each year CWA Outreach either sponsors or co-sponsors a student art show, awarding ribbons and $500 in cash prizes. It is held in the spring before the end of school. An all-day workshop especially for art teachers is offered in June, at the end of the school year. CWA artists give demonstrations and assist teachers in practicing watercolor techniques. Each teacher is given a supply of paper and paint to take back to the classroom.

CWA also participates in student art shows conducted by the California State Fair and the Alameda County Fair. Cash awards of $300 are given to three young artists in each competition whose watercolor paintings are judged best by CWA jurors. CWA also makes a yearly grant of $750 to The Junior Center of Art & Science in Oakland.
