Advanced Beginner to Expert
We will begin this online workshop with our study of the nature of flowers – learning to interpret flowers in a loose and spontaneous manner – concentrating on discovering the power and movement of color, designing with individual flowers as well as groupings, values, edges (soft vs. hard), leaving white paper as part of the design, and controlling water and brush strokes to provide an intuitive experience.
This part of the workshop will involve sending you some photos of flowers, mostly individual ones (a variety), which you can use for your paintings or use your favorites photos or live flowers. I usually love live flowers but realize it is hard to share, so you can use my photos for your learning process.
We will then move into learning to interpret the head and figure which consists of a series of lessons, quick exercises and then into painting thus enabling students to gain knowledge and confidence in an approach. In painting, we will focus on discovering the unique qualities of translucent flesh tones, features, hair, background, clothing, etc., and in the figure, the fun of discovering the gesture which is pervasive throughout the workshop.
